God's creation
Psalm 93
This psalm is a hymn of praise and is part of a collection of psalms known as "enthronement psalms" (Psalms 47; 93; 95-99). This psalm was no doubt sung on special Sabbath festivals both as praise to the Lord and as a reminder to the Hebrews that their God was sovereign of all creation. As the psalmist reminds us, it is in the beauty of creation that we see God's majesty. I am blessed to live near the Rocky Mountains and I am able to spend a great deal of time surrounded by the beauty of God's creation. But no matter where you live God's majesty surrounds you. And our Lord and King reigns eternal. Majestic King, we see you in roaring waves, majestic mountains, and a quiet lake. Help us to know and love not only the creation, but also the creator of all that is and was and is to come. Amen. Tracy Hinkel Psalm 93 (NRSV) 1 The Lord is king, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed, he is girded with strength. He has established the world; it shall never be moved; 2 your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting. 3 The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring. 4 More majestic than the thunders of mighty waters, more majestic than the waves of the sea, majestic on high is the Lord! 5 Your decrees are very sure; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore. |
